"Legno Bereket" is a design that offers a contemporary interpretation of traditional Turkish rug and kilim motifs. "Bereket" translates to blessing, abundance, or prosperity. It's a word often used in Turkish and other languages to express the idea of a positive outcome or gift, similar to how we might use the English word "blessing".
It combines bereket (abundance), insan (human), and göz (eye) to evoke prosperity, well-being, and protection. Intended for use in furniture and interior surfaces, the pattern conveys the customary wishes offered when entering a home, bringing symbolic meaning into everyday living spaces.

The design process began with a study of the Anatolian kilim tradition, where weavers use a geometric language to express silent wishes for the home. Through a process of reduction, three symbols—Bereket (abundance), İnsan (humanity), and Göz (protection)—were distilled into their essential forms.
The sketches explore how these ancestral motifs can transition from symbolic illustration to architectural structure. Through alignment, proportion, and repetition, the forms evolve into a rhythmic system of relief—translating cultural narrative into a tactile, contemporary surface.
The pattern is structured within a standard 1250 × 2500 mm panel, establishing a clear architectural framework for the composition. Three motif scales, ranging from 250 mm to approximately 500 mm, create a measured vertical rhythm, allowing the pattern to unfold with balance and continuity. This modular logic ensures that the motifs can extend seamlessly across furniture fronts or larger interior surfaces.
Material selection plays a central role in the expression of the relief. Tanganika Anegre veneer (TABU 01.059) was chosen for its fine grain and natural warmth, subtly recalling the tones of Anatolian soil. The technical development focuses on the dialogue between the veneer's organic texture and the carved depth of the motifs, allowing light and shadow to reveal the surface gradually throughout the day.
Legno Bereket explores how cultural memory can be translated into a contemporary architectural surface. Inspired by the symbolic language of Anatolian kilim motifs, the project distills three ancestral forms, abundance, humanity, and protection, into a modular system of relief carved into Tanganika Anegre veneer. Through measured proportions, tactile materiality, and rhythmic repetition, the design transforms traditional symbolism into a calm and structured spatial presence.
The result is a surface that quietly integrates heritage into the everyday rituals of the home. As light moves across the carved motifs, the panel reveals a subtle landscape of shadow and texture, grounding the interior in warmth and stillness. Legno Bereket ultimately seeks to frame the living space with a silent gesture of well-being, where cultural narrative, material honesty, and spatial calm converge.
